Touring rowers enjoy annual dinner in York

24 recreational rowers from around the country gathered in York on 13 April

One of the many fun things about open rowing tours is the opportunity to meet other likeminded recreational rowers from other clubs. And having made new friends, the opportunity to meet up again is always welcome.

The annual Recreational Rowing Tourers’ Dinner is one such occasion, and an excuse to visit York proved an added incentive.

Although strong stream conditions following recent rain meant that participants couldn’t get out for a row beforehand, everyone was delighted to have a chance to come and spend some time in the wonderful city of York, sampling the fine bars and restaurants and other activities on offer. The dinner itself took place at Jacob’s Well Medieval Hall, a Grade 1 listed building in the city centre.

John and Caroline Turnbull who do so much for recreational rowing, and who had organised the occasion, were sadly unable to attend . However, Malcolm Hingle, Vice Chair of Broxbourne Rowing RC, was a splendid host and a great time was had by all.
