British Rowing announces The British Rowing Junior and Senior Club Championships in July 2024
The newly-formed Championships will take place from Friday, 19 to Monday, 22 July 2024 at The National Watersports Centre, Nottingham
British Rowing is delighted to announce The British Rowing Junior and Senior Club Championships, taking place from Friday, 19 to Monday, 22 July 2024 at The National Watersports Centre, Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. This follows an extensive consultation process, which took place over the summer.
By adding Senior racing to the already highly popular and successful British Rowing Junior Championships programme, we will create a vibrant Championship event which celebrates clubs across the country. This inclusive atmosphere will span four days of racing from Friday to Monday, with the aim of encouraging as many people as possible from across the rowing community to participate, from rowers to coaches, volunteers, club members and supporters.
A full provisional schedule will be published alongside the race categories and their criteria before Christmas. The newly introduced senior programme will stretch from beginner categories right up to the highest level of club competition in Britain – lightweight, adaptive and mixed events will also be available to competitors.
An important focus for the combined event is to enhance the British Rowing community’s national Championship racing experience, both on and off the water. We’ll share more information for 2024 closer to the event, and are excited to continue to develop this new competition into an established part of the rowing calendar over the next few years.
Which events will be held on which days?
The race programme across all four days for both juniors and seniors will be published before Christmas, along with criteria for the different levels of racing.
Will the Junior Championship race programme remain unaffected?
The competition will run over four days with a schedule benefitting both junior and senior athletes. A full race programme will be published before Christmas, and we are announcing dates early to allow everyone the best opportunity to make appropriate arrangements.
Will university clubs be able to participate in the new senior races?
The Championships will be open to entries from all British Rowing affiliated clubs and universities.
Will GB Rowing Team athletes be racing?
The current GB Rowing Team athletes have international commitments at the time of the competition. Athletes who have previously represented the GB Rowing Team can of course enter and race via their clubs.
Why is the event being held at the National Water Sports Centre?
A venue assessment was carried out as part of the consultation, concluding that the National Water Sports Centre was the best location to deliver the event successfully and centrally in the UK.
How is British Rowing expecting to resource the additional day of the event?
Volunteers are critical to the successful running of events and there is ongoing work within British Rowing to engage and recognise this community.
Where can I see the results of the Senior Championships survey carried out earlier in the year?
