Henley Royal Regatta to be televised by BT Sport
Record entries at the 177 year old event
It is that time of year again when one of the most famous regattas gets underway with crews racing along the 1 mile 550 yard course upstream along the River Thames in Henley-on-Thames.
After the huge success of streaming the event live last year on the Regatta’s YouTube channel, Henley Royal Regatta (HRR) has secured a new partnership with BT Sport.
BT Sport will be televising the event from 1pm on the first three days (from Wednesday, 29 June to Friday, 1 July), with the full day’s racing shown live on Saturday 2, July and Sunday 3, July showcasing our incredible sport to an even wider audience.
Catch up with all of the Henley Royal highlights on their YouTube channel
With 629 crew entries from a record 27 nations there will certainly be lots to keep spectators on the river bank and at home entertained. There is strong representation of crews from across the UK as well as from countries around the world, it truly is a global regatta.
This year, the Temple Challenge Cup (Men’s Student Eight) has the biggest number of entries of 73 crews to contest for the title of Henley winner, whilst The Wyfold Challenge Cup (Men’s Club Coxless Four) has seen the second largest entry with 62 crews.
HRR provides the opportunity for club rowers to face members of the GB Rowing Team. Although many of the team are away on training camp before heading out to Rio, there are still a number of athletes competing. Jess Leyden will take on crews racing in the Princess Grace Challenge Cup (Women’s Quad), Tina Stiller in the Princess Royal Challenge Cup (Women’s Single) and racing in The Double Sculls Challenging Cup are Jack Beaumont and Nick Middleton.
An extra special treat at this year’s regatta will be on the Thursday where the British Paralympic Association will announce the rowing team who will be representing Great Britain at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
Best of luck to all crews competing. To those watching make sure you don’t miss out on all the live action from BT Sport and the YouTube channel.
