Maidenhead Regatta to trial ‘Super Sprint’ racing

Maidenhead Rowing Club has announced some exciting changes for its summer regatta this year.

Taking place on Saturday 9th August, Maidenhead has extended its day’s racing to include recreational races, junior/master races and the finale of the day – 250m ‘Super Sprints’.

“The Maidenhead Regatta has been running for over 100 years but we felt this year, especially with the national competition review, it provided the perfect opportunity for us to trial a new format,” said James Hanson, Maidenhead Rowing Club Captain.

“The new races will still sit within the traditional regatta but they provide a great new opportunity for competitors and spectators to enjoy an even more exciting day’s racing. Our aim as a club has always been to put on the best event we can for both competitors and spectators, and we feel these changes allow us to do just that.”

Maidenhead Regatta is run over a 500m course with events catering for all, from J14 to elite. It attracts hundreds of crews and spectators each year, with prizes, cash prizes, riverbank refreshments and entertainment.

Entries are now open and more information is available on the official Maidenhead  Regatta website: www.maidenheadrc.org.uk/maidenhead-regatta-2014.
