Stratford celebrates Regatta success

Competitors and organisers alike overcame tricky conditions at the Zizzi Stratford-upon-Avon Boat Club Regatta on Saturday (16th June).

Local crews from Evesham, Warwick, Ross, Worcester, and Edward VI Grammar School were out in force at the Row for Gold Regatta, taking on rowers from as far afield as Cardiff, Nottingham, and Upper Thames.

“Whilst the conditions for all competitors were hard, we had some great rivalry with our sister clubs which produced great rowing,” said Regatta secretary Jo Wyles. “There were 106 races in all and Stratford won 30 races and 11 finals!”

The 133-year old Regatta was a celebration of rowing in the West Midlands, with beer and tea tents stationed on the river banks and a number of dignitaries showing their support on the day.

“Stratford Boat Club would like to take this occasion to thank all the umpires, officials, coaches and helpers from sister clubs and organisations as well as our own club,” added SUABC President Felix Badcock. “Without their help, an undertaking such as the regatta would not happen. It was also great to see our MP Nadhim Zahawi and our Mayor Keith Lloyd and other welcome guests.”
