Search continues for London 2012 performers

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is searching for 10,000 volunteer performers to take part in the London 2012 Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Volunteer performers will perform in front of a live audience of 70,000 at the Olympic Stadium, and a broadcast audience of over one billion people – providing the opportunity to be involved in one of the largest and most significant events ever staged in the UK.

Artistic Directors Danny Boyle and Kim Gavin have been casting dancers, percussionists, and all-round entertainers to perform in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Having completed the first phase of casting to attract general applicants, LOCOG’s focus has now shifted to engaging with sports groups.

LOCOG is particularly keen to attract male applicants – as so far double the number of female hopefuls have applied – but all applications continue to be welcomed.

Previous performing experience not required, volunteers will simply need energy, enthusiasm, personality, and the desire to put on an incredible show for over a billion people.

Applicants must be aged 18 years or over on 1 March 2012, and be able to meet rehearsal commitments of two or three sessions a week in east London from March 2012.

The deadline for applications is 20 October, and up to two auditions will take place in November and December of this year.
