Rowers complete Tidal Thames Challenge

Tidal Thames Challenge

A group of intrepid rowers have completed the inaugural Tidal Thames Challenge – a 19-hour epic row from Margate, Kent, to Richmond upon Thames, London.

Two teams of seven rowers completed the Extreme Rowing Challenges event on Thursday 28th July, setting off at 3.30am and arriving in Richmond at 10.30pm.

“This was our first attempt at this challenge,” said event organiser Roger Gould.

“We are sure that, as a result of our experiences and the extremely helpful input and feedback of the rowers themselves, we will have the best rowing challenge experience you can ever have in one entire day of rowing”.

Extreme Rowing Challenges are currently seeking applicants for their next Tidal Thames Challenge – an 80-nautical mile row from Richmond to Chatham on 25th-26th September.

The Challenge will see Participants row the course of The Great River Race and the University Boat Race in a single journey.

Explore Rowing is also still accepting applications for its own Thames-based event – the Tour de Thames.

The Tour takes place on Friday and Saturday, guiding rowers from Reading to Eton Dorney in time for the 2011 World Rowing Junior Championship finals – with a spattering of sprint stages thrown in for good measure.
