Loughborough Regatta 2010
Nottingham Rowing Club report on their wins at Loughborough Regatta…
Loughborough Regatta 2010 was held at the National Watersports Centre at Holme Pierrepont on 12th June. Water conditions were very good and Nottingham Rowing Club enjoyed a successful day, rowing over the 1,000m course. The event ran like clockwork and finished ahead of schedule.
The morning programme was a mixture of heats and finals. Nick Musson won Intermediate 3 sculls, Ben Sibly followed this with a resounding victory over his Loughborough opponent and the morning finished with the Junior 15 girls eight, which had shown good form at National Schools, turning up only to find that Nottingham University had withdrawn. An embarrassed Regatta Committee awarded the race to the girls but did not award any points. The crew stroked by Niamh Gibbons rowed over and claimed the trophies. The afternoon was all finals and the Club then won seven more events.
First winners of the afternoon were Dominic Harrison and Ed Fisher, coached by Martin Kay ,rowing in their Linear Insulations sponsored boat. They took Intermediate 2 double sculls from a strong field. Hereford and Belfast were then defeated by the winning Intermediate 2 Coxless pair. This was followed by wins in Intermediate 2 sculls and Novice sculls where Tom Lister, coached by Julie Edwards, won an all Nottingham final.Ben Sibly sculled away from the field to take the Intermediate 1 title, his second win of the day.
Impressive crew wins were recorded by the Women’s Intermediate 2 Eight coached by Helen Bloor, currently preparing for Henley Women’s and the girls U18 quad of Mary Wilson, Lucy Crooks, Holly Oughton and Sarah Padbury who, although only 16, brushed aside older opposition from Newark Rowing Club and Welbeck College.
