Former Isis Rower Elected New Oxford President

Alec Dent, who rowed in the Isis boat for the past two years, has been elected as the new President of Oxford University Boat Club (OUBC) to lead the Dark Blues into the Xchanging Boat Race against Cambridge next March.

Alec, 20, is in the final year of a three-year course in Economics & Management at Keble College. He rowed at 4 in the winning Isis boat in 2009, but as Co-Vice Captain of OUBC lost out to Goldie as stroke of the Isis crew this year.

“I’m really honoured to have been elected President and realise how much has to be done for us to win and how much responsibility falls on my shoulders,” said Alec. “Over the past two years I’ve learnt that winning is far more rewarding than losing and that you need perseverance to get the result you want. But it’s a lot easier and good fun if you are part of a close knit team.”

Alec was born close to the Boat Race course at Hammersmith, but spent his childhood in Paris where his mother originates from. He now lives in Bampton, Oxfordshire.  Since starting his rowing career 10 years ago at the Dragon School, he rowed at Harrow School and has also competed in the Prince Albert Challenge at Henley.

The 2011 Xchanging Boat Race will take place at 17:00 on Saturday 26 March.
