Ben Hunt-Davis, winner of Olympic gold in the men’s eight at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, has today been named by the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) as Chairman of the organising committee for the 2011 FISA World Rowing Junior Championships.

The Championships are to be staged at Eton-Dorney, the rowing venue for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Hunt-Davis will team up with Sir Matthew Pinsent CBE, four times Olympic gold medallist, who is to be President of the event.

ARA Chairman Di Ellis said:  "I am absolutely delighted that Ben and Matt have agreed to lead the 2011 team. Having two Olympians committing to these key roles will give a huge boost to our volunteer legacy programme by maintaining the high expectations of the sport both in organising major events and our club infrastructure for the future.’

Hunt-Davis said: "It is a huge honour for me to be the Chairman of the FISA 2011 World Junior Rowing Championships. Rowing in Great Britain has a reputation and rich history in running excellent events including the FISA 2006 World Rowing Championships and the FISA 2005 World Cup when the Chairman Mike Baldwin and his committee set a gold
standard in event organisation. I am confident that the fantastic team of highly experienced people who will be working with me can deliver an exceptional event on the chosen Olympic course of Eton Dorney".

Great Britain will host the World Rowing Junior Championships from 3rd to 6th August 2011.

The event will offer an exciting opportunity to see the rising stars of the future. 2008 Beijing Olympic medallists Matt Wells (Junior Gold, 1997), Debbie Flood (Junior Bronze, 1998), Natasha Page (Junior Silver, 2003) and Matt Langridge (Junior Gold, 2001) are just a few of Britain’s top senior rowers who have also represented GB at the World Junior Championships.

Around 50 nations, including more than 600 rowers aged 18 and under, are expected to attend the Eton event in 2011.
